Egypt - Egyptology

Luxor
Please correct me if I'm wrong, but, as far as I know, Egyptian civilization is the only one that generated a science: Egyptology. Just like millions of others, I'm completely fascinated by it. In 2008, Ioana and I had the chance to take a 2 week tour of Egypt and get a taste of its incredible history.
The Luxor Temple was founded in 1400 BC
Our carriage driver:
Luxor temple at dusk:
Ipet-isut, meaning 'The Most Sacred of Places' is the old name of Karnak, the largest temple complex ever created by man:
It was built and enlarged over a period of 1300 years.
Every morning, hot air balloons take tourists up for an unforgettable sunrise trip over the West Bank of the Nile River:
The elegant funerary complex of Queen Hatshepsut:
One of the many Alabaster factories on the West Bank:
The Colossi of Memnon are two massive stone statues of Pharaoh Amenhotep III:
18 m in height, they've been watching the sunrise for the last 3400 years.
Esna
The boat salesmen besiege the cruise ships waiting their turn to go through the locks at Esna:
Edfu
The first pylon of the Temple of Horus:
The hypostyle hall:
God Horus:
Kom Ombo
The temple was built during the Ptolemaic Dynasty and is dedicated to two different Gods: Sobek and Horus:
The mighty Nile makes all the difference between life and death:
Aswan
Felucca trips are very popular and go all around the Elephantine Island.
The unique Oberoi Hotel:
Motor boats take tourists to the island and temple of Philae:
It's 45 C degrees in April and the guard is still wearing his winter uniform:
One way to get to the Nubian Village:
The school is built next to the mosque:
Our teacher:
The drawings on the outside walls explain how many times and what means of transportation the owner used to go to Mecca:
Abu Simbel
Among the most magnificent monuments in the world, the temple of Ramses II was built more than 3000 years ago. Being threatened by submersion in Lake Nasser, due to construction of the High Dam, from 1964 to 1968, it was dismantled, raised over 60 m and reassembled in the exact same way:
I hope you enjoyed our cruise on the River Nile, sailing 4000 years back in time! In the second part of the trip we'll go to Cairo and the Red Sea, so stick around.
