The Souls and Shadows of Staglieno

Exactly four years ago I had the chance to spend a few weeks in Genoa, Italy and I was lucky enough to discover one of the most impressive places I've ever seen:
The Monumental Cemetery of Staglieno:
I'm quite fascinated by graveyards for a few reasons that are difficult to explain. I enjoy the silence and the awakened perspective on life's most profound aspects that they foster.
The Staglieno cemetery was open in 1851 and it's a museum of Ligurian sculpture and architecture.
In 2006 I entered the biggest photojournalism contest in Romania with 12 of these images and I'm extremely proud to share with you that I was awarded the 3rd place!
Please use caution when looking at this picture. My face makes it the most terrifying one of the whole set! In my defence I can tell you that I was still in shock after I received the trophy and the Diploma. Behind me you may notice six of my winning images on display:
