And the "Happy New Year" Goes To ...

I'll tell you in a minute, but first I want to clarify something. You are probably wondering what's up with this awkward silence on my blog lately... Where are all the love and prosperity messages?
Let me explain. 2010 earned the title of the most intense year. It was pretty spectacular for the most part: Sidney Crosby and the Olympians, the World Cup, an absolute record number of weddings - no less than 25, journeys to incredible destinations like Dubai and Tanzania. It feels like the picture perfect Canadian Dream. The first scratch in this picture showed up in September, when our beloved Acura got stolen. We were so busy with life, we didn't even have time to get pissed off about it. In fact, two hours after I realized I didn't have a car anymore, I had an engagement photo shoot. But then, Santa came. And he came early, about 10 days before Christmas. There was only one problem: he got confused with his job description and - instead of bringing things over - he took stuff. Lots of it!
Yes, I'm saying what you think I'm saying and I'll spell it out for the people in the back: our apartment got robbed! And this is all Santa left:
For dramatization purposes I'm exaggerating a little, but it would have been nothing left for sure if Ioana didn't show up and caught the guy in the middle of cleaning our place. Needless to say we don't believe in Santa anymore... It was painfully messy, but I don't want to ruin your day completely, so I won't get into those details. By the way, if you see somebody on the street wearing a Cosmin Danila Photography hoodie, feel free to point him out to the cops.
It's all fun and games till my wife's safety is in jeopardy! Fortunately, she's OK and that's the most important thing! I was in Africa at the time, but news travel fast and before you could say Ngorongoro, my excitement for walking with the lions suffered an all time low.
You know the proverb: what doesn't kill you, it's gonna try again... Wait, that's a different one. I meant: what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. I can tell you one thing: that increased strength they rave about must be a side effect, because we just don't feel it at the moment. There's other side effects, as well, like loss of interest in the holidays or even long and boring blogs.
Why am I telling you all this? I'm not sure anymore... Maybe because that's what I did for the last 2 years. I shared with you everything we've been through ever since we landed in Canada. I was rather comfortable with that, but things will change slightly. They have to, unfortunately! I must come to terms with the fact that we're not living in the ideal world where you can tell everyone you're leaving the country for a month and expect not to have visitors while you're away. Hence, from here on, less personal information. I'll still be the same nice guy, dying to know you, but I won't be able to show it that much. Actually, it's going to be almost impossible to express myself after we join the witness protection program. OK, that was a joke, the first official one of 2011. It's not that good, but, under the circumstances, it's all I could come up with. Common, at least pretend you're smiling!
I'm not the philosophical type; my level of English won't allow it, so I admire you for reading thus far! I hope your eyes didn't start hurting! I'm sure by now you want to know who gets the trophy. No more suspense! The "Happy New Year" goes to ... YOU! All of you! All the fantastic people who are on this blog and all the amazing people who spend time visiting here! I shall try, but I'll never succeed thanking you enough. Simply, Cosmin Danila Photography would not exist without you! I'm sure, with you on our side, 2011 is going to be the bestest year ever!
Happy New Year!

  1. yep..remember less info is always better than more info...be happy that Ioana is ok, the rest of the things that got stolen are just worldly goods that can be replaced.
    Happy new year!

  4. Sorry to hear this Cosmin! It's sad what some people will do to the kind, generous people like yourself! We'll miss the details on the blog, but think you're making the right move -- safety for you and Ioana first!

  5. My initial reaction ...SHUT UP!!! Then laughter as I read the proverb: what doesn't kill you, it's gonna try again!! By the way your English is excellent! You're making the right decision and I'm still looking forward to all the fab pictures you take...you're an inspiration to a non prof. photographer like myself, who loves your work and is inspired by it!!

Best wishes to you and Ioana in 2011 and may all your wishes come true!!
