I've been planning a long time to be in India for the biggest and most wonderful festival that takes place over here. And I couldn't be more excited to finally make it work. I've been told Varanasi was the best place to experience the festival of lights, but it was a bit of a disappointment with very few lights, but way too many loud crackers going off all over the place. Luckily, with the help of my friend, Joymalya Das, I found this hidden Patal Dev temple where devotees were lighting small clay lamps filled with oil, to signify the triumph of good over evil:

You should visit the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab to see how Sikh's celebrate Diwali. Just Google imaging "golden temple diwali" will make you want to go there.
