With all the rain this winter, California can finally quench its thirst and turn green just in time for a beautiful Punjabi wedding.
We kick off the celebrations with a colourful rangoli on the hills of Fremont.
Looks like the groom-to-be is enjoying every second of the messy maiyan ceremony.
Later that evening, Kanwar's family is bringing the party to Sakoon restaurant.
The food is really good and, fortunately, there's plenty of it.
You know things might get out of hand when you see the jaago coming:
In the same time, Navneet's family is celebrating a few minutes away, at Bombay Garden, in Newark:
For the sake of diversity, the traditional jaago is replaced by a Northern California backpack:
The excitement is maintained at high levels.
The next day, I find myself in Lathrop, at the bride's house:
Her mom's part of the family is welcomed with sweets:
And Navneet turns videographer for a while:
The clean creation of the meticulously designed rangoli announces a contrasty blotchy maiyan ritual.
Navneet's nephew feels like he shouldn't get too close to her right now:
The ceremony ends with the bride-to-be sharing a plate of sweet rice with her sister-cousins:
Now everyone can go out in the streets for a new round of jaago, announcing the wedding to the whole neighbourhood:
Last item on today's agenda is the choora ceremony:
The bangles go through milk and a lot of hands before going onto the bride's arms:
It feels like the milk is shrinking them a little bit:
With plenty of hand lotion, the choora is in place and navneet is ready for tomorrow's wedding day.
