Like any respectable Punjabi wedding, Sam and Amrit's celebration spreads over five days and countless rituals and events. We start with the chunni ceremony, where the ladies from the future groom's family bring gifts to the future bride:
The dohl does its part after that:A good time to bring the jaago out:
And keep on dancing:
Next event is Amrit's maiya ceremony:
Judging by the little girl's face, this is better than Disney Land:
The grown ups get even more excited:
A more abstract design of rangoli:
It can fly, too! With some help from Amrit's mom:
Time to sing again:
The following day we're back at the Maharaja for Amrit's ladies' sangeet:
The dohl doesn't catch a break:
Jaago with fire! I'm not scared:
There's also the 3 story jaago:
And even the big torch jaago! Now I'm scared:
Amrit and his sisters are rehearsing for the reception:
Akash is in the hard rock phase:
Samita's maiya:
She ties a red string around the girls' wrists. For protection, I assume:
Mom is being very gentle:
Unlike the others:
The maternal uncles are an integral part of the choora ceremony:
The wedding bangles are first plunged briefly in milk:
And immediately donned on Sam's arms:
I shall end with a random masterpiece of Ariya. Because we love her:
The wedding day is coming soon, but you can do some work while waiting.
