Golden Temple in Amritsar - Punjab, India

Hari Mandir Sahib means "Temple of God". Popularly known as the Golden Temple, this gurdwara is the holiest place for Sikhs. It's construction was commenced in the 16th century by Guru Ram Das, the fourth Sikh Guru.
Shrine to Baba Deep Singh, one of the most honored martyrs in Sikh history, who gave his life in battle:

In early 19th century, Maharaja Ranjit Singh covered the upper floors of the gurdwara with gold, which gives the spectacular appearance and the English name of "Golden Temple":
The kitchen of Golden Temple feeds around 50 000 people every day. The number doubles on weekends and holidays. It all starts in the basement, where the supplies and donations arrive:

 The chapati machine:

Amrit Sarovar - Pool of Nectar:
There are 300 permanent sewadars and hundreds of volunteers that work at the langar.
The world's biggest free dinning room:
The langar or community kitchen was designed to uphold the principle of equality between all people regardless of religion, caste, color, creed, age, gender or social status.
The dishes are done solely by volunteers:

The Khanda is the Sikh emblem. It consists of three objects: a solid circle, two interlocked swords and one double edged sword in the center:
