Damini is going to need lots of it, since we have not one, but two ceremonies today.
Another main feature is the lengha, which no man is strong enough to carry (I know because I tried), but the Indian bride is a completely different creature.
Add makeup, flowers, dupatta and a big smile, and we have the complete spectacular package.
The groom's outfit is pretty impressive, as well:
Connor's parents are doing a great job, even though it's their first Hindu wedding.
Not too far east of Edmonton lies the Barr Estate Winery, also known today as the place where two become one:
The Covid protocols are in place, with decorations including masks and sanitizer:
Everybody follows the safety procedures. I mean e.v.e.r.y.body:
The baraat can safely commence now.
There's no better way to warm things up and get in celebratory mode.
Connor is welcomed by his parents-in-law.
He takes his place in the mandap, waiting for his bride.
Since Damini couldn't partake in the baraat, she takes full advantage of her entrance:
The first ceremony is a simple and sweet affair.
It involves emotional vow readings and ring exchanges.
Done and done.
We take a trip to the legislature grounds for a creative break.
Connor can put his feet up for a while, before the second ceremony begins.
He's the first to start the Hindu vedic rituals.
It's not an easy task to put the flower garland around Connor's neck, but Damini completes the mission with help from her brothers.
Tolerance to sunlight is different from person to person:
If there's a rollercoaster of emotions, the bride is on it the entire time.
Damini gets a full set of toe rings, which is the last place on her body where she can fit more jewelry:
I stand corrected, there's room for one more golden chain:
Blessings and congratulations end the formal part of the Hindu wedding ceremony.
Jutti chupai is the ritual where the girls on the bride's side ask their new brother-in-law for ransom in exchange for his juttis (shoes):
But first, the girls have to take possession of those prized goods that are fiercely defended by the groom's brothers:
Nobody's safe in this daring endeavour.
I mean the action is so fast, my high speed camera can barely keep up:
After heroic efforts, the juttis bring leverage to the girls and they ask for a well deserved payment.
Connor agrees, but has to make a bank withdrawal before he can pay.
After the financials are taken care of, while the sun is going down, there's some time to mingle.
I like the special sign in book that comprises freshly captured instant photos of the guests and personalized messages that go with each image.
I have stiff competition:
One by one, the guests are lured inside the tent by the yummy dinner and the reception festivities.
Right after the first dance, the floor becomes jam-packed, but in a very socially distanced way. Yes, it can be done.
Congratulations one more time, Damini and Connor! Thank you so much for the opportunity to be a part of your fantastic wedding celebration in this crazy times!
